Songs to listen to when you’re down
There are times when all we can feel is sadness and pain. No one to talk to, no person who cares. Yes, everyone has that time in their lives, no exceptions. Whatever it is that we’re feeling and when there’s not much that we can do, we turn the music on and we sing our hearts out. Most of the time, we listen. Little did we know that those lyrics were meant for us all along. Yes, there are those times.
It’s a good thing that musicians understand our deepest and darkest of all emotions. So listen to these songs whenever you’re feeling blue. Whatever it is, whatever the reason may be, listen to these songs and feel them for it is through feeling pain that the pain goes away.
1 Everybody hurts – REM
“Don’t let yourself go, coz everybody hurts… sometimes… so hold on, hold on…”
Listen to the song and watch the music video. Make sure you’re ready to get some goosebumps because of its deep and speaking meaning. Listen to the song as it speaks to you. Everybody is going on something you may never know about. Everybody is fighting their own battles without you knowing it. Everybody feels pain, it’s just not you, so hold on. That’s reason enough for you to hold on, and hold on and never give up on life or give your life up.
2 Bridge over troubled water – Simon and Garfunkel
“Sail on silver girl, sail on by. Your time has come to shine, all your dreams are on their way. See how they shine, oh if you need a friend, I’M SAILING RIGHT ON BY…”
Wouldn’t it be nice if someone would say this to you at the time when you need it most? Like, “I’m just behind you, I’m just a step behind, all you need is face me because I’m here and I will wipe your tears dry.” Awwww.
3 Fix you – Coldplay
“Lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones. And I will try to fix you.”
Just digest the part when Chris Martin says… “I will try to fix you…” If you have nothing and no one, turn up the volume and cry with the song. At the very least it will release oppressed feelings of pain and misery and grief within your system.
4 Jumper – Third Eye Blind
“I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend. You could cut ties with all the lies that you’ve been living in. And if you do not want to see me again, I would understand…”
Don’t jump! Don’t do it! That’s what this song says. Don’t give up on life because life has a greater meaning than this, than all the pain put together. A rainbow can only shine after a rain.
5 Live like you’re dying – Lenka
“Take every moment, I know that youI own them. It’s all up to you to do whatever you choose. Live like you’re dying and never stop trying. It’s all you can do, use what’s been given to you…”
You have everything in your hands to control. No one will shall tell you otherwise. Use everything you have, do everything you could. Life is not as wretched as it may seem when we’re indulged in pain and suffering.
6 I believe – Christina Perri
“I believe if I knew where I was going, I’d lose my way, and I believe that the words that they told you are not your grave. I know that we are not the weight of all our memories…”
Don’t be stagnated in the past, it has no bearing or whatsoever to all the things that you plan to do in the future. All those awkward and unwanted memories, forget them, yet take their lessons with you. Other people will judge you anyway, but then it should have no effect on you because you are a product of all the things that you did and you went through, you are not who they say you are.
7 You’ll be in my heart – Phil Collins
“I may not be with you but you’ve got to hold on…”
Can you do it on your own? Yes you can! Yes you can! Uplift your spirit and fly again. You are loved, you are cared for even when it doesn’t seem so. You hold on to whatever you can. You hold on because something greater is gonna come.
8 I’ll be there – Martin Nievera
“The rainbow will land in the palm of your hand, don’t ever let it go. When the stars won’t shine anymore, I’ll be there.”
Imagine someone saying this while holding your hands. Think of that one person you would want to do it for you. It’s all gonna work out soon trust me. Just, listen… “When the stars won’t shine anymore, I’ll be there…”
9 You learn – Alanis Morissette
“You live, you learn, you love, you learn, you cry, you learn, you lose, you learn. You bleed, you learn, you scream, you learn…”
You’re bound to learn. Whatever you do, there is something you’re bound to learn. That’s the beauty of life. You can do nothing or do everything and still learn from it. You make mistakes, that’s normal, but then, you learn.
10 True Colors – Cyndi Lauper
“If this world makes you crazy and you’ve taken all you can bear, just call me up because you know I’ll be there.”
You are just beautiful and share that beauty to the world. Don’t hide under masks, your beauty is meant to shine. It may not be like those of others but then again, that’s just because it’s you and you have something distinct from the rest of the world, so let it shine, because it has to shine for them all to see, “you’re beautiful like a rainbow…”
And yes, you’re beautiful like a rainbow.
